Thijs Oldenburg
Intern in the Spotlight: Thijs Oldenburg
Education and School:
I am a Finance & Control student at Inholland University of Applied Sciences in Alkmaar.
Internship type:
I am completing a graduation internship at Heilig.
Assignment:
I assist the company in implementing a sustainability report in compliance with CSRD regulations.
Why Heilig?
I was introduced to Heilig through one of my lecturers. What ultimately convinced me was the diversity of industrial markets the group operates in, offering an excellent opportunity to learn a lot.
Learning beyond the books:
In my assignment, I have mainly developed my problem-solving skills and adaptability. Unexpected situations and changes occur regularly, and you must deal with them effectively. This is something you read about in books, but here at Heilig, I truly had to apply and learn it in practice.
Best thing about Heilig:
I really appreciate that everyone is willing to answer questions. The doors are always open, and help is readily available. For me, without a technical background, that is invaluable. Plus, the atmosphere is fantastic! People work hard, but there’s also plenty of laughter.
Most impressive moment:
In my first week, a programme was set up to introduce me to the Heilig company and its people, and to see how things are done here. From visiting an ongoing project to meeting project managers and chatting with colleagues at various locations, I quickly learned who I could approach with questions.
A great bonus was that this introduction was done together with other new interns, which quickly built friendships.
Tip for new interns:
Don’t worry! You’ll join a warm, welcoming environment with lots to learn.
If Heilig were a song:
Because I’ve experienced first-hand that everyone is open to helping and the doors are always open, the song that perfectly fits Heilig is I’ll Be There for You by The Rembrandts.
